INtrODUCtION After a recent review of the geographic variation of the Cuban Grass Frog Eleutherodactylus varleyiDunn, Díaz et al. () described ingeri, a cryptic species widely distributed in central and eastern Cuba. the two species differ primarily in tympanum size, supratympanic stripe pattern, and advertisement calls. The coqui frog, Eleutherodactylus coqui, a species endemic to the island of Puerto Rico, exhibits a wide variety of color and pattern polymorphisms including 4 discrete stripe patterns on its dorsal surface and an unstriped morph. We conducted breeding experiments to determine the mode of inheritance for these 5 dorsal color patterns in E. coqui. A new grass frog from pine forests of Western Cuba, and description of acoustic and pattern variation in Eleutherodactylus varleyi (Amphibia: Leptodactylidae) August Caribbean Journal of. Eleutherodactylus achatinus (Boulenger) occurs from Panama south to southwestern Ecuador; the names E. brederi Dunn and Hylodes pagmae are assigned to its synonymy (although brederi might yet prove to be a valid sibling species with a different call). Eleutherodactylus caprifer Lynch is known from west-central Colombia and northwestern Ecuador.

Despite the wide occurrence of pattern or colour polymorphisms in anurans (current records cite at least species representing 35 genera and 11 families) surprisingly little conclusive work has been done on the inheritance and selective maintenance of this variation.
